Etymology
Phono-semantic compound (形聲 /形声, OC *qʰʷla, *ɢʷla): semantic 雨 (“rain”) + phonetic 于 (OC *ɢʷa). A 平聲／平声 (píngshēng) noun derived from 雨 (OC *ɢʷaʔ, “to rain”), possibly through back-formation (Schuessler, 2007).
