Etymology
For pronunciation and definitions of 雅 – see 鴉 (“crow; raven”). (This character is a variant form of 鴉). Schuessler (2007) leaves its etymology as unknown, yet mentions that it has been suggested to be related to 夏 (OC *ɡraːʔ) (e.g. by Wang Yinzhi apud Zhi, 2004), etc.), a proposal also supported by Baxter & Sagart (2014).
