From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *purl (“root; stump; tree”) (STEDT, under PTB *(b/p)ul). Cognate with Mizo bul (“cause; beginning; root; stump”), Jingpho phun (“tree; bush; stalk; wood”), Garo bol (“tree”).
