Etymology
Ideogrammic compound (會意 /会意): 柬 + 攴 (“a stick in hand that represents authority”) – to warn. The left component, according to Zhang Shichao (張世超), is the contraction of 熏. In the Small Seal script, it was sometimes written as 束.
