Etymology

The modern use of 唐装 was derived from 唐人 (tángrén), popularly used among diaspora Chinese from Fijian and Guangdong as a name for themselves. Rather than claiming that the tangzhuang jackets were what people wore during the Tang Dynasty, the use of 唐 by those immigrants was to commemorate the Tang Dynasty as one of the greatest periods in Chinese history.
